Frequently asked questions
Can I use an expired ID?
No. Bring ID that is valid and current. If your only photo ID has expired, call us before booking so we can tell you what will work.
Can I use a photocopy or a photo of my ID on my phone?
No. The notary must see the original physical ID in person.
What if the name on my ID doesn’t match my document?
Bring a document that links the two names, such as a marriage certificate or a legal change-of-name certificate. Small differences, like a missing middle name, may also need explaining, so call ahead if you’re unsure.
Does every signer need ID?
Yes. Each person signing must appear in person with their own valid government-issued photo ID.
Can a foreign passport be used?
Yes. A valid passport from any country is generally acceptable government-issued photo ID.
