What ID do I need?
One valid, government-issued photo ID, such as a passport, driver’s licence, permanent resident card or Ontario Photo Card. Every person signing needs their own ID, and the name should match the document.
Should I sign my document before I come?
No. You must sign in front of the notary. If you’ve already signed, bring a fresh unsigned copy.
How long does it take?
Most notarizations take less than 10 minutes.

Documents
Which documents can you notarize?
Affidavits, statutory declarations, certified true copies, travel consent letters, invitation letters, powers of attorney, real estate documents, employment and reference letters, and many documents for use abroad. Call with a photo of your document if you’re unsure.
Do you notarize wills?
No. We do not prepare or notarize wills. Please speak with an Ontario lawyer.
Can you give legal advice about my document?
No. A notary verifies identity and witnesses signatures. For advice about what a document should say, speak with a lawyer or licensed paralegal.
What is the difference between a notary and a commissioner of oaths?
A commissioner of oaths can administer oaths and take affidavits and declarations. A notary public can do that and also certify true copies and notarize signatures on documents, including those used outside Canada.
Can you apostille my document?
We notarize it first. Ontario’s Official Documents Services then issues the apostille or authentication. See our apostille page for the steps.
